Campbell County Jailer Greg L. Buckler has been the elected official of the Campbell County Detention Center since 1998. He is a lifetime resident of Campbell County. He attended and graduated from Campbell County High School in 1981.
He furthered his education at the Northern Kentucky University and majored in Criminal Justice. He entered and graduated from the EKU Police Academy Class #209 and served as a police officer for 11 years.
Greg Buckler has volunteered for the Eastern Campbell County Fire Department for over 30 years and is the Asst. Chief. He currently runs on the life squad as a certified EMT first responder. With over 3,500 training hours, he is certified as a Kentucky Certified Firefighter level 3 and is qualified as a State Fire Services instructor. He is past President of the Northern Kentucky Firefighter's Association.
Since 2003, Greg has served on the board of the Kentucky Jailer's Association and is currently the Vice President. He is the co-chair of the Criminal Justice Advisory Council (CJAC) for Campbell County.
Since his election in 1998, Greg has been instrumental in many improvements at the Campbell County Detention Center. The starting pay for a Deputy Jailer was increased to attract more qualified candidates and a nine week training program was created for newly hired deputies that is certified by the Department of Corrections. The community service program and the Campbell County Detention Center is now the biggest contributor to the Adopt-a-Highway program in Campbell County. In the last 7 years, the community service program saved Campbell County over $6,000,000 in free labor to government and non-profit organizations.
Greg, in conjunction with the Campbell County Fiscal Court and the Kentucky Department of Corrections, designed and built the Restricted Custody Center which now houses 124 inmates and provides revenue for the county. In May 2007, an addition was opened which now houses up to 265 additional inmates in the direct supervision dorms.
Recognizing the need for an up-to-date medical department, Greg has opened a medical center inside the facility. The medical department is staffed 24 hours a day 7 days a week and provides immediate assistance as necessary
Greg is a huge sports fans. The Cincinnati Reds and UK Wildcats are his favorite teams. He has a great collection of Reds memorabilia in his office and at his home.
